Gifts that get used
The test for a kitchen gift is whether it is still in the drawer a year later. These three lists are built for that, not for the unboxing.
For someone starting to bake
A cutter set and a bench scraper, in that order. The set covers most of what a first year of baking asks for, and the scraper is the tool people did not know they wanted until they had one. Skip the single novelty cutter: shapes get used once, sizes get used weekly.
For the person at the griddle
A press with real weight and a wide flat turner. Both are cheap next to the pan they will be used on, and both replace improvised alternatives (a second pan, a fish slice) that never worked properly. If they already have a press, the melting dome is the piece that finishes a cheeseburger.
For the kitchen that has everything
Consumable and dull is the honest answer: cooling racks, a flour duster, a second scraper. Nobody buys their third cooling rack for themselves, and everybody who bakes wishes they had one. The whole range sorts by price if a budget is the constraint.
